Author

USA Today bestselling author Sidney Halston lives her life by one simple rule: “Just Do It” – Nike. And that’s exactly what she did. After working hard as an attorney, Sidney picked up a pen for the first time at thirty years old to begin her dream of writing. Having never written anything other than very exciting legal briefs, she found an outlet for her imaginative, romantic side and wrote Seeing Red. That first pen stroke sealed the deal, and she fell in love with writing. Sidney lives in South Florida with her husband and children. She loves her family above all else, and reading follows a close second. When she’s not writing, you can find her reading and reading and reading. She’s a reader first and a writer second. When she’s not writing or reading, her life is complete and utter chaos, trying to balance family life with work and writing (and reading). But she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Book Review: Beyond The Red Carpet (Hollywood Lies Book 1)

Author: Debbra Lynn
Publication Date: December 9th 2015
Genre:  Romance, Romantic suspense, crime
Source: Received this book via the Author in exchange for an honest review.

Review:  Debbra Lynn’s Beyond The Red Carpet is a riveting novel. BOOM. First sentence and already I’ve summed up my entire thoughts. Seriously, Debbra caught my attention from the very first page.
This book jumps from past to present each chapter. Debbra completely nails it. She makes it work like I’ve never seen it worked before honey.
Sophia is the female lead who falls for Marcus Donovan who becomes a big time hot shot Hollywood Director. Many see the Donovans as the perfect couple. Marcus can’t express his love for Sophia more if he tried and Sophia is the perfect housewife with a smile always planted on her face.
However, not all is what it seems to be. With a novel packed with suspense, love, betrayal and murder can you really expect anything less than extraordinary?
Now, my only complaints? The way the dialogue was written was a bit awkward for me and also some parts were VERY fast paced… For instance Sophia and Marcus get married quicker than you can say, “Hitched!”
Overall I enjoyed this read. There is a twist at every corner and it keeps you on your toes. The ending frustrated me but I can’t wait to read more from Debrra Lynn! She definitely nailed her debut novel with this piece.

Book Review: The Strongest Steel by Scarlett Cole

Author: Scarlett Cole
Publication Date: July 7 2015
Publisher: St. Martin’s Paperback
Genre:  Romance, Romantic suspense
Source: Received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Contains excerpts.

Review: Now, trust me when I say this is harder for me to write than you may believe. The first novel that introduced me to Scarlett Cole’s writing was The Purest Hook. I swore up and down that there was no way any of the other books in the Second Circle series could beat Dred and Pixie’s romance.

This is now painful for me because I have to take back my own words! Something I usually don’t even do…. like seriously never. I know, I know I’m stubborn. However, The Strongest Steel just could not let me win. As soon as Trent (male lead) sees Harper (female lead) walking past the shop one afternoon, you already know he’s got a thing for her.

As she got close, he could see she was holding a pastry box from the coffee shop down the street.

“Those for me darling?” he shouted across the street, breaking out the smile that chicks seemed to go for. She looked confused for a moment before she realized he was calling out to her. Damn. A slow, shy smile – and then there was that simple flush of her skin, Such a turn-on. Holy shit.

What you don’t know is how tormented our poor Harper is. She moved to Miami due to a devastating…. and when I say devastating I am not being dramatic here folks… incident. Let’s just say she was in a relationship with a man she shouldn’t have been with and he literally almost took her very life.

She goes to trent looking for a tattoo to mask the proof of her previous life. She’s hoping that Trent is the guy who can make that happen.

“I googled you,” Harper said, turning to face him.

“Learn anything interesting?”

“You’re one of the best there is.”

He revealed two striking dimples as he smiled.

Not only does Trent take on the job, he also takes on the responsibility of being Harper’s very life line. She spends her days wasting away, working at a coffee shop and hiding from life until she meets Trent. He shows her how to live again and how to put her demons behind her.

Of course nothing is perfect in life and that isn’t any different for our leading couple here. It’s clear that they love one another more than words but Harper’s past comes back to haunt them and it’s one long bumpy road till the finish line.

Even with the trials and tribulations Trent refuses to back down. He just made my heart melt with his sweet nature and adorable pet names.

“I know what you’re up to,” she said.

“And what would that be?” he asked with a devious smirk.

“You know.”

“Is it working?”

She looked over her shoulder to where he was still reclining against the wall, watching her patiently. All the reasons she’d vowed to stay alone, to remain uninvolved, fled as he grinned at her.

“Maybe.”

There isn’t a woman alive who would turn down some extra loving is all I’m saying. Trent knows how to make Harper feel special but also knows how to let her be independent. He’s a man with confidence. And he wants his woman to feel the same about herself. *Sigh* I just really loved him in this novel.

I’m telling you guys right now this is a 1-click novel. Seriously, if you can download, buy or order it today! I will be reading more from Scarlett Cole. She’s amazing.

4 stars of steel for this baby!

EXCERPT

I stare up at the house for a moment, my hands shaking on the steering wheel, wondering what I’ve got myself into. I do some breathing exercises to calm down, pick up the box, and get out of the car. I can barely stand, my legs are so wobbly.

Maybe I’m working myself up over nothing. So what if the woman in the picture looks like me? It could be a coincidence.

Or maybe, just maybe…

I walk slowly up the driveway and knock on the door, my heart racing. After a couple of minutes, I knock again. Maybe they aren’t home? Maybe they didn’t hear me? I try the doorbell.

After a minute, I hear heavy, muffled footsteps.

Oh god. I should have worn a better outfit. I quickly smooth my hair with my free hand and stand a bit taller. Am I going to meet my birth mother? Or, at the very least, an aunt or something? Or my grandmother? Although, if someone cared enough to take these pictures and put them in an album, why would they throw them away? Is that the sort of person I want to meet?

The door swings open. The person standing in front of me is most definitely not a granny.

“Can I help you?” he asks as he rubs his eyes.

“Oh, I, umm…”

My brain has stalled.

He shouldn’t be the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen. But for some reason, he is. He looks like he’s in his late twenties, maybe early thirties. He isn’t wearing anything that spectacular, just a plain T-shirt and fleece pants. And his dark eyebrows are a bit thick for my liking.

But those lips…thin on top, full on the bottom, framed by a cleft chin and dark stubble. And those brown eyes fringed with black lashes…

He blinks. “Okay, then. Well, if that’s all…” He starts to close the door.

“Does this belong to you?” I yelp. I shove the box into his chest. He takes a half step back and sneezes as the dust flies up around him.

He frowns. “Is this the crap I took to the thrift store?” With a confused look on his face, he hands the box back to me and crosses his arms. He leans on the door frame, making his biceps strain against his T-shirt. His entire left arm is covered in swirling blue and green tattoos. “How did you find where I live?” he asks cautiously. He has a hint of an accent. Scottish, maybe?

I roll my eyes. “Don’t flatter yourself, I’m not stalking you.”

He smirks. “Good. I’ve already got too many stalkers.”

Book Review: Dex A Kinky Shine Novel #1

Author: Stephanie Witter
Publication Date: May 3rd 2016
Publisher: Stephanie Witter
Genre: Romance
Source: I requested and received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Review: Okay I don’t know about ya’ll but I’m a sucker for the whole bad ass rockstar boyfriend thing. Seriously I love it. I love to see a man involved in the rockstar lifestyle fall for a woman who changes his whole crazy word upside down… and accidentally make it up side right?? If you catch my drift.

Dex is a part and the lead singer of Kinky Shine. He meets Harley on a bad day because he has to do an interview with her for her blog… being a rockstar and all of course he hates that stuff. However, it turns out that Harley is more than just some small time blogger. Not only does she have a degree in communications, a blog with 500 thousand+ followers her father also happens to be the manager of Kinky Shine.

“Tell me something,” he said slowly, his eyes taking in every inch of my face thoroughly before he eyed my conservative looking top and went back to my eyes mostly hidden by my ugly-ass fake glasses. “Who’re you fucking?”

I blinked. “Huh?”

He smirked at me, the left side of his mouth curving upward, carving in his cheek a very sexy dimple.

Yes ladies and gents you read that excerpt correctly. That is literally Dex’s first encounter with Harley. Of course once he realizes who her father is and realizes that she’s not a groupie who made her way to the top by opening her legs he feels like a complete ass. Harley can’t seem to forget the grumpy, douchebag, and totally sexy rockstar and Dex can’t seem to forget the only woman who has made his insides stir in a long time.

This story had it’s parts where I thought it was a tad cheesy maybe even rushed..but I’ll tell you what… I liked it. Dex was sexy, mysterious and dangerous but he loved Harley more than anything. Harley was an innocent compared to her rockstar man but that didn’t stop her from diving head first in to their relationship. A relationship that was filled with doubt, trust issues and complications from Dex’s famous lifestyle.

How can a man and a woman from two separate worlds last the battle field of love while also dealing with a band that’s falling apart, a grungy lead singer who has more trust issues than he can count and a young girl who can’t seem to care even when her heart is on the line? Pick up this book and find out.

I gave this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars due to some parts that I found weren’t 100% believable. This may be different for everyone.

This is book #1 in her Kinky Shine series.

Book Review: Alexandr’s Cherished Submissive

Author: Ann Mayburn
Publication Date: June 30th 2015
Publisher: Fated Desires Publishing, LLC
Genre: Romance, erotica
Source: I requested and received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Review: Woo!! Alexandr’s Cherished Submissive was beyond steamy. Alexandr Novikov, next in line to being ruler of the Novikov Bratva (mob of sorts) is the epitome of tall dark and handsome. He leads with an iron fist but loves with all the compassion in the world. Ann Mayburn has you wondering throughout the whole book how it is possible for such a cruel man to have a heart so big.

Jessica Venture is an Irish American woman who has found blood family in Ireland. She moves to Dublin with her uncle Peter and her aunt Mary hoping to find a close connection to these people now that her parents have passed. She ends up finding much more than that. Not only is she a beauty with her green eyes and fiery red hair she’s got a light inside of her that shines so bright. It’s hard for Alexandr to ignore this beauty when he walks in to Peter’s bar.

From the moment they laid eyes on each other Alex knew that this woman was destined to be his and Jessica felt a longing that ran deeper than the ocean. With his firm but tender loving Alex had me falling in love with a mere character and that was how I knew that this book was beyond the five star rating I have given it. When I can long for a person that I know isn’t even real I know that the author has done something right. An I can say that Ann Mayburn has created a world full of hot wild sex, raw passionate love and dangerous mob dealings and even with the craziness that Alex has to endure to be with Jessica and that Jessica has to endure to be with Alex never once did I not wish for a love so deep.

I will say this I loved this book and even though it is the third in her Cherish Sub series I didn’t feel lost not one bit. However there was A KILLER cliff hanger and I will be buying the second part to Alexandr and Jessica’s love story. I can’t say much without giving spoilers but PLEASE if you love hot wild sex, passionate love and an all around dangerous novel that leaves you wanting for more go and get this book! You will not regret it… honest.

P.S This does have sexual situations in which they share with other partners. If that is a deal breaker for you than maybe you should reconsider. I will say I usually don’t go for that kind of thing but I LOVED THIS BOOK. 🙂

5 out of 5 stars!

Book Review: The Purest Hook

Author: Scarlett Cole
Publication Date: May 3 2016
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Genre: Romance
Source: I requested and received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Review:  The Purest Hook is the third book in a stand alone series by Scarlett Cole. I haven’t even read the first two books (however I plan to now) so I wouldn’t worry about being lost. I still loved this book beyond words can describe.

Dred the male lead and Pix the female heartbreaker are beyond amazing. They start off as a lustful attraction and end up crashing head first in to the biggest romance of their lives. Both of our lovely characters have had hard lives. Dred grew up as an orphan and Scarlett had an abusive step father that tormented her life even after he was long gone.

Dred’s a bad ass lead singer/guitarist  in a band called Preload and Pix is a receptionist for Second Circle a tattoo shop owned by men who saved her from a hellish life that she was barely surviving.

When you read the first chapter you can already tell that there’s more to Pix and Dred than just lust. I felt the instant connection so deeply that I knew that this book was going to be apart of the rare few that I fell in love with. It’s not often that I get to read a book (Arc especially) and it completely takes my breath away. Even with all the drama and baggage that both Dred and Pix cary with them on a daily there was no denying the undying love that these two eventually formed for one another.

I can’t say much without giving spoilers away but if you’re looking for a sexy rockstar and a strong yet shy beauty that create a romance that will knock you off your feet then The Purest Hook by Scarlett Cole is a must have for your library collection!

I’m giving this book a steaming 5 out of 5 stars!

Book Review: You Before Anyone Else

Author: Julie Cross, Mark Perini
Publication Date: Expected date 8/2/16
Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire
Genre: Teens and YA
Source: I requested and received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Review: Okay just where do I start?! How about with the fact that I am so grateful that I was accepted to review this beautiful piece of art. You Before Anyone Else is an amazing love story. Why? Because it’s so much more than your typical YA novel. It’s not about a young girl conquering the evils of the world or defeating mass oppression while falling in love.

No, instead this book was about a young girl named Finley who has had a hard life and has dreams that she’s too scared to grab on to. It’s about a young man named Eddie who wants to leave his controlling wealthy family behind and take responsibilities for his actions instead of letting his father’s money do it for him.

Due to her mother’s passing and her father ending up disabled Finley had to be more of a mother than a sister to her siblings. This fact alone kept her from doing the one thing she wanted and that was to dance as a Ballerina. Eddie finds the family he’s been missing through Finley and latches on to that with all his might. Eddie and Finley meet at a party and what was supposed to be a one night stand ends up being a relationship that means so much more to these young adults.

If you’re looking for a romance that will sweep you off your feet You Before Anyone Else is the book for you. I don’t say this often but the moment Eddie, the male lead, met Finley I knew that I had just fallen in love. Their romance took me back to my high school days and had me thinking about the days of fearless love that I so eagerly thirsted for. Totally worth the read! I suggest every one of you keep a look out for this gem because you don’t want to miss it. I promise!

I’m giving this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
