Author

USA Today bestselling author Sidney Halston lives her life by one simple rule: “Just Do It” – Nike. And that’s exactly what she did. After working hard as an attorney, Sidney picked up a pen for the first time at thirty years old to begin her dream of writing. Having never written anything other than very exciting legal briefs, she found an outlet for her imaginative, romantic side and wrote Seeing Red. That first pen stroke sealed the deal, and she fell in love with writing. Sidney lives in South Florida with her husband and children. She loves her family above all else, and reading follows a close second. When she’s not writing, you can find her reading and reading and reading. She’s a reader first and a writer second. When she’s not writing or reading, her life is complete and utter chaos, trying to balance family life with work and writing (and reading). But she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Book Review: Dalir’s Salvation by Nina Crespo

Author: Nina Crespo
Publication Date:  September 27th 2016
Genre: Fantasy, Romance
Source: Received this book via barclay publicity in exchange for an honest review.

Dalir’s Salvation is the third book of The Song series. Now as I get ready to read the other two I realize that I definitely should have started from the beginning of the series. However, I still enjoyed this book more than I thought I would.

Dalir, who I absolutely loved, is searching for his wayward brother and is now in the human universe hoping to find him.

Ari, the female lead, has somewhat psychic abilities. When she ends up in the hospital she begins to see a man that she realizes no one else can see. Can you all guess who that might be? 😉

Obviously Dalir is shocked I mean Ari isn’t supposed to be able to see him but she does. This peeks his interest and he begins to wonder what else she might be capable of.

Ari and Dalir fall into a spicy whirlwind of a romance where she helps him on his search for his brother. Neither one of our characters have had it easy but that doesn’t stop them from falling for one another. Ari and Dalir were a delight. They made me laugh, hell they even made me cry. Nina did an amazing job on this novel and I’m so glad that I was able to read it.

Trust me on this one guys this novel is one that you don’t want to miss out on. I’m giving it a 5 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Beyond The Red Carpet (Hollywood Lies Book 1)

Author: Debbra Lynn
Publication Date: December 9th 2015
Genre:  Romance, Romantic suspense, crime
Source: Received this book via the Author in exchange for an honest review.

Review:  Debbra Lynn’s Beyond The Red Carpet is a riveting novel. BOOM. First sentence and already I’ve summed up my entire thoughts. Seriously, Debbra caught my attention from the very first page.
This book jumps from past to present each chapter. Debbra completely nails it. She makes it work like I’ve never seen it worked before honey.
Sophia is the female lead who falls for Marcus Donovan who becomes a big time hot shot Hollywood Director. Many see the Donovans as the perfect couple. Marcus can’t express his love for Sophia more if he tried and Sophia is the perfect housewife with a smile always planted on her face.
However, not all is what it seems to be. With a novel packed with suspense, love, betrayal and murder can you really expect anything less than extraordinary?
Now, my only complaints? The way the dialogue was written was a bit awkward for me and also some parts were VERY fast paced… For instance Sophia and Marcus get married quicker than you can say, “Hitched!”
Overall I enjoyed this read. There is a twist at every corner and it keeps you on your toes. The ending frustrated me but I can’t wait to read more from Debrra Lynn! She definitely nailed her debut novel with this piece.

Excerpt 1:

If someone had told Tamara Post a month ago that she’d be in one of Fort Worth’s most exclusive members-only clubs sipping champagne at her ex-husband’s Taz’s engagement party, she would have laughed in that person’s face. If they’d have said she’d be working as the office manager at B-Squad Security and Investigations—which her ex-husband’s fiancée, Bianca Sutherland, owned—and loving it, she would have punched them square in the nose. Ex-beauty queens and former soon-to-be trophy wives didn’t roll that way.

It was funny how life turned out.

Settling in on the velvet-covered settee in the Corsair Club’s private party room, she contemplated getting another glass of wine from the open bar.

“Looking for one of these?” The man belonging to the deep bass voice held out a glass of her favorite chardonnay.

Whereas everyone else in the room was dressed in designer suits and glittering cocktail dresses, the tall, dark and handsome man in front of her was in pressed Wranglers, cowboy boots and a crisp white dress shirt. If he’d had a tie or a sports coat on at one time, he’d ditched them a while ago, judging by how his shirtsleeves were rolled halfway up his corded forearms. Not that she noticed that, or had scoped out the way his broad shoulders filled the shirt to perfection, or was tempted to ask him to turn around so she could confirm that his ass looked as good in those jeans as she imagined.

Men were no longer on her to-do list. But wine? Yeah, that she could do.

“Thank you.” She took the glass and drank a sip.

The man sat down beside her, his brawny frame taking up most of the bench she wasn’t already parked on. One of his jeans-clad legs brushed against her bare knee and, for the first time in months, a wave of warm desire had her clenching her thighs together.

Unable to figure out how to inch away to allow for space between them without being obvious about it, she crossed her legs. The move made her emerald-green skirt slide up her thigh a bit more than she was comfortable with under the circumstances. Still, giving him a glimpse of skin was less…unsettling…than actually touching him.

“I don’t think we’ve been properly introduced.” He held out his hand. “I’m Isaac Camacho.”

She knew that name, and now she’d have a face to go with it every time she entered in expense reports. “You work with B-Squad.”

He nodded. “On a come-and-go basis as a freelancer.”

“Why’s that?” From the number of B-Squad clients she’d had to turn away in the past month, Tamara knew the team could use another member.

“I’ve been told I don’t play well with others.”

His grin did something funny to her stomach.

“Now that really is too bad. It’s important to play nice—mostly.” It came out before she could stop it. Damn it. She didn’t flirt. Not anymore. Men had been her drug of choice for too long and she’d sworn off of them.

He leaned in close. “Look, I don’t want to make a scene but we need to get out of here. Now.”

Her heart fluttered. She mentally rolled her eyes at herself. What could she say? Old habits died hard—even when they were oh-so-bad for her. “Why’s that?”

His full lips flattened into a grim line. “There’s a bounty hunter making his way through the front of the restaurant now. He’s got papers on you.”

Book Review: The Strongest Steel by Scarlett Cole

Author: Scarlett Cole
Publication Date: July 7 2015
Publisher: St. Martin’s Paperback
Genre:  Romance, Romantic suspense
Source: Received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Contains excerpts.

Review: Now, trust me when I say this is harder for me to write than you may believe. The first novel that introduced me to Scarlett Cole’s writing was The Purest Hook. I swore up and down that there was no way any of the other books in the Second Circle series could beat Dred and Pixie’s romance.

This is now painful for me because I have to take back my own words! Something I usually don’t even do…. like seriously never. I know, I know I’m stubborn. However, The Strongest Steel just could not let me win. As soon as Trent (male lead) sees Harper (female lead) walking past the shop one afternoon, you already know he’s got a thing for her.

As she got close, he could see she was holding a pastry box from the coffee shop down the street.

“Those for me darling?” he shouted across the street, breaking out the smile that chicks seemed to go for. She looked confused for a moment before she realized he was calling out to her. Damn. A slow, shy smile – and then there was that simple flush of her skin, Such a turn-on. Holy shit.

What you don’t know is how tormented our poor Harper is. She moved to Miami due to a devastating…. and when I say devastating I am not being dramatic here folks… incident. Let’s just say she was in a relationship with a man she shouldn’t have been with and he literally almost took her very life.

She goes to trent looking for a tattoo to mask the proof of her previous life. She’s hoping that Trent is the guy who can make that happen.

“I googled you,” Harper said, turning to face him.

“Learn anything interesting?”

“You’re one of the best there is.”

He revealed two striking dimples as he smiled.

Not only does Trent take on the job, he also takes on the responsibility of being Harper’s very life line. She spends her days wasting away, working at a coffee shop and hiding from life until she meets Trent. He shows her how to live again and how to put her demons behind her.

Of course nothing is perfect in life and that isn’t any different for our leading couple here. It’s clear that they love one another more than words but Harper’s past comes back to haunt them and it’s one long bumpy road till the finish line.

Even with the trials and tribulations Trent refuses to back down. He just made my heart melt with his sweet nature and adorable pet names.

“I know what you’re up to,” she said.

“And what would that be?” he asked with a devious smirk.

“You know.”

“Is it working?”

She looked over her shoulder to where he was still reclining against the wall, watching her patiently. All the reasons she’d vowed to stay alone, to remain uninvolved, fled as he grinned at her.

“Maybe.”

There isn’t a woman alive who would turn down some extra loving is all I’m saying. Trent knows how to make Harper feel special but also knows how to let her be independent. He’s a man with confidence. And he wants his woman to feel the same about herself. *Sigh* I just really loved him in this novel.

I’m telling you guys right now this is a 1-click novel. Seriously, if you can download, buy or order it today! I will be reading more from Scarlett Cole. She’s amazing.

4 stars of steel for this baby!

Synopsis

Sexy shifter passion is awakened when two unlikely lovers are challenged by secrets, danger and an unstoppable need to claim one’s mate…
For human Amy Francis, the secluded cabin in Deep Creek is the haven she needs to map out a fresh new start. She never expected her heart to be reawakened by a distraction like Griff Martin, commanding yet gentle, too ferociously sensual to ignore. It’s clear that patrolling the forest is more than a job to Griff—it’s a means of survival. But what Amy doesn’t realize is she’s reawakened the beast within him.

Griff’s dormant hunger is stirred by this intoxicating woman…and threatened by the secret she must never learn. Duty-bound to defend his bear clan against an avenging pride of lion shifters, Griff’s entire world is upended when he meets Amy. His animal need to claim his mate has taken hold, but that very desire could seal her fate as an unwitting pawn in battle.

Now, as a shifter war looms, Griff must decide between letting Amy go or following his most carnal instincts. To have her would change his life…but risk everything he knows and was born to protect.

Read and Excerpt from WAKING THE BEAR:

“Griff, this is Amy Francis, your new tenant.” Jill rushed over to Amy and took her by the elbow to lead her to the small kitchenette table. “I’ve already done the background check and credit check, and she’s prepared to pay two months up front. Just gotta sign the papers.”
As Amy passed the ranger he peered down at her, his hazel eyes locking on to her, examining. Warm, and soul-deep, they stared. Not judging or comparing, he truly seemed to be studying her without any pretense. She gazed back, her mouth partly open, her heart rate accelerating from being so close she could smell his woodsy scent. He wore a full beard, the kind of scraggly brown mess of wiry hair usually reserved for reality TV. His hair matched, curling to his shoulders in a tangle of waves.

Something about his eyes warmed her to her core.

“Nice to meet you, Ms. Francis,” his deep voice almost growled. He set her scarf on the table.

What had he been doing with her scarf? She’d left it on the table. She grabbed it then wrapped it around her neck, hoping to conceal her flush. “Nice to meet you, too.”

She was instantly at ease with him, despite his gruff appearance and her body’s reaction to his maleness. He had that Grizzly Adams kind of comfort in his posture. Big, but safe. Trustworthy. At ease with himself and his environment. The kind of guy that made you feel like everything was going to be okay.

Not the kind of guy she was used to being around.

“Glad you find my cabin to your satisfaction.” He continued to stare, but it wasn’t threatening, it was curious.

“It’s a lovely place, and the view is amazing, but you know that. Exactly what I was looking for, though. So thank you for agreeing to rent it to me.” She could tell she was babbling but her mouth wouldn’t stop. Something about the sexy ranger made her slap happy. She squeezed her scarf, trying to keep quiet and slow her thoughts down. Amy time. Amy time. Not looking for a man. Shouldn’t even be looking at a man, especially not a man like this. Whew, is it hot in here? She fanned herself.

“I have some questions.” He eyed her for a few seconds before continuing, his gaze cutting into her. “This is my family’s cabin and it’s very special to me. I don’t rent to just anyone that shows up. Even someone Jill has picked and background checked.” He nodded toward Jill. “Even though I’ve known her a long time.”

“Her background check was clear.” Jill nodded.

“I hope you’ll consider me.” Amy shuffled her feet. Her heart thudded and her palms dampened. She hadn’t considered that he might not rent to her. If he didn’t, she’d have to stay in a hotel till she found another place, and that wouldn’t be easy.

He ran his fingertips across the chairback and paused before speaking. “This cabin is a special place to me.”

She followed his fingers, watching them slide across the smooth wood. “I can see how it would be.” Her mouth went dry. His long fingers and large hands exuded the same power his height did. No wonder Jill seemed to have a crush on him. Who wouldn’t? She cleared her throat. “What questions do you have? I’m prepaying.”

“I’ve got the contract,” Jill interjected. “Ready to go.”

“No, it’s not that.” He ran his fingers through his beard. “I need to know how you’ll use the cabin.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t damage anything. I’m an artist and I draw and paint landscapes and florals. Mostly watercolor, and almost always outdoors. That’s why I thought about coming to the mountains of New York. It’s so beautiful here.” Damn, she was still babbling. What was it about the big man that both put her off guard and comforted her at the same time? Her body hummed with excitement being in his presence and she’d left her cool in the cabin bedroom. She had to get control. She was in New York to get away from people, not meet new ones. Especially not sexy new ones.

He had facial hair and she had a rule. No facial hair. That was simple enough, right? No facial hair meant zero facial hair. Well, except eyebrows. She’d dated a guy in college who shaved off his eyebrows as part of his Goth sensibilities. Best guy ever at quoting Whitman. No facial hair except eyebrows had been a rule since that guy was out of her life.

“I see. Well, I’m glad to hear you aren’t painting with harsh chemicals.” He yawned and rubbed his eyes. He gripped the back of the kitchen chair and scooted it across the wooden floor to its place under the table. “Sorry. I’m having a hard time staying awake.”

“Sorry.” Her face heated again. “I’m trying to tell you how lovely I think this area is, especially compared to the city.”

“The mountains are picturesque, especially in springtime. I think you’ll be an ideal tenant, long as you can follow the rules.”

His gaze lingered, and she crossed her arms over her chest. “Th-thank you,” she stammered at his close inspection. “I can follow the rules.” The landlord won’t be too bad to look at, either. Not a bonus I was expecting. Looking is okay.

“One thing you need to know. Take it to heart, please. The mountains are very dangerous. Especially if you don’t know what you’re doing or where you’re going. You don’t want to go traipsing around these trails by yourself. You could get lost pretty easily and it could be days before someone finds you. There are things—”

“I don’t think you need to worry about Ms. Francis,” Jill spoke up.

“She’ll be fine.” She fiddled with her notebook, flipping pages quickly. “She’s from Atlanta.”

Griff reared up to his full height and stared at the Realtor. “This is not Atlanta.”

Waking The Bear: Book Review

Waking the bear review:

Author: Kerry Adrienne

Publisher: Carina Press

Release date: August 1st 2016

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Who doesn’t love a good Paranormal Romance? I have to say that Paranormal is one of my favorite genres to dabble in and Waking The Bear by Kerry Adrienne did not disappoint.

Amy (female lead) loses her job and drops the dead weight that is her unhealthy relationship with her (ex) boyfriend. She figures, like most women do, that it was time for a change of scenery after that big of a change. She ends up in the mountains where she hopes to work on herself. However, when she gets there she realizes that she has an immediate attraction to her landlord Griff.

Griff, and the bear within, immediately recognize Amy for who she is. His mate. Griff decides at first that he will not pursue his urge to claim Amy as his, because of a danger that is closing in on his “pack”.

However, is the danger that haunts him and his den enough to keep him away from Amy? Well, my lovely readers you’d have to buy the book to find out ;). I can tell you this; I loved it. It was a quick read but it was a quick read that had me totally engrossed with every turn of a page.

Thank you Kerry for writing this book and thank you Barclay for giving me this opportunity.

Guys trust me you don’t want to miss out!
